Seafood - the key to proper and healthy nutrition

Science has determined that everything living in the world once derived from the sea. The more evolution progressed, unfortunately, the more we lost our connection with the sea and became ‘grounded’ on firm land. Nonetheless, dry land is not necessarily the optimal environment for us, and therefore, sometimes, our bodies undergo ‘mishaps’ which we tend to call ‘diseases’.

During the recent era mankind has started to internalize this fact and we have started using all of those things that the sea can provide us with - and which are essential for proper nourishment - in order to treat a variety of illnesses and as a restorative for the body. Our natural pharmacy is limitless. Let’s examine, for example, the Laminaria seaweed. The length of the seaweed reaches up to 12 meters, and they look like brownish-green ribbons. This seaweed grows mainly in the ocean near the shores of Japan, the Sea of Okhotsk and the Coral Islands in the eastern region, and in the White Sea, the Branch Sea and the Kari Sea in the west. In many layers of the seaweed there are numerous of types of vitamins, minerals and amino acids, A, B-1, B-2, B-12, C, D, alginate acid, folic acid, various minerals, polysaccharides, iodine, bromine, calcium salts, etc.

The Chinese discovered the exclusive properties of the Laminaria seaweed in the years before the common era (BCE), and included them in the list of medicinal herbs and lists of healthy and correct food products. In the 18th century Emperor Zhou Xi proclaimed a special decree that obliged all of his subjects to use the Laminaria seaweed as dietary food to prevent diseases. The government even financed the supply to some of the distance regions of the huge country. Laboratory studies that have taken place in modern times endorsed the wise instructions that had been given by the Chinese Emperor. Laminaria seaweed contains iodine and minerals that assist the absorption of mercury, calcium and iron; regulate blood pressure; and prevent the formation of clots in the arteries by thinning the blood, thus hindering the development of arteriosclerosis; and by lowering the levels of cholesterol in the blood. The effect of Laminaria on the body is identical to the effect of the “Heparin” medications, only the seaweed works in a much gentler way. A large number of experiments have proven that healthy nutrition and the intake of these polysaccharides into a tumor stave off the development of the sarcoma.

Modern medicine recommends the use of alginate acid extracted from Laminaria seaweed to treat and prevent arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, toxicosis of the thyroid gland, and rickets. It also improves the metabolism and function of the urinary tract, as well as treating thyroid problems caused by the absence of iodine.
